Signed on the back: "A. Discovolo 1938 - XVI".
Antonio Discovolo (Bologna, 1874 - Bonassola, 1956) moved with his family to Pisa, then studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, where he attended Giovanni Fattori's (1825-1908) lessons.
He then moved to Lucca, where he attended the local Institute of Fine Arts and had Luigi Norfini (1825-1909) as his teacher. His frequentation of Torre del Lago dates back to 1898, where he met Giacomo Puccini and especially befriended Plinio Nomellini (1866-1943). This was therefore the period in which he joined the Bohème Club and approached Divisionist technique, thanks to his closeness to Nomellini. A pronounced symbolism emerges from his evocative and light-filled views, especially set between Liguria and Tuscany, such as Bonassola, which stands out for the brightness of its palette.
