"Pair Of Brazilian Armchairs"
PAIR OF BRAZILIAN ARMCHAIRS FROM THE 60's/70'S IN SOLID JACARANDA In 1873, a group of wealthy coffee traders established the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios with the stated aim of supporting future industrialization efforts in Brazil. Seven years later, it became a fully integrated school. For over a century, it has been educating the public in the fields of agriculture, industry, commerce, crafts, arts and design, including furniture design, leading to producing incredibly rare pieces designed by students and still sought after today. Hoping to make Brazilian industries more competitive, the school called on prominent volunteers, including two of its directors, Brazilian architects Bettencourt da Silva and Ramos de Azevedo. The school sometimes called upon its own exceptionally gifted students to teach when volunteers were scarce. The Sociedade Propagadora das Belas Artes maintained the school in a building designed by Ramos in São Paulo. Ramos' work also includes notable buildings such as the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo and the Palácio das Indústrias. The school has provided furniture to several hotels, such as the Manaus Tropical Hotel, as well as the international airport
