"Saint John Nepomuk By Czech Painter Of 18th Century "
This old master painting represents Saint John Nepomuk and was executed in the 18th century by a Czech or German painter. John Nepomucene (or John Nepomucene) (Czech: Jan Nepomucký; German: Johannes Nepomuk; Latin: Ioannes Nepomucenus (c. 1345 – March 20, 1393)[2] was the saint from Bohemia (Czech Republic) who was drowned in the Vltava River at the request of King Wenceslas IV of Bohemia. Later accounts indicate that he was the confessor to the Queen of Bohemia and refused to divulge the secrets of the confessional. Based on this account, John Nepomuk is considered the first martyr of the Seal of the Confessional, a protector against slander and, because of the manner in which he died, a protector against floods and drowning.
