Beautiful etching based on the painting painted in 1740 by Carle Van Loo representing Saint Geneviève, patroness of Paris, sitting at the foot of a tree reading while tending her sheep. A woolen distaff and its hooves rest near her while three cherubs fly in the sky above her. The engraving includes the following indications: Inscription at the bottom left: C Vanlo Eques pinxit, at the bottom right J Balechou Arelat s Sculpxit Inscription at the bottom left: Taken from the Gallery of Mr. de Siffredy Mornas in Avignon Inscription at the bottom right : By his very humble, very obedient and very faithful servant and subject Balechou Inscription in the center, on either side of the arms of France: Dedicated to the King. 18th century period, 1759. Fine and precise engraving work. Dimensions: View: 47.5 cm x 34.5 cm Frame: 64.8 cm x 47 cm (overall) Chassis: approximately 55 cm x 38 cm In its discovered state, not removed from the frame. Old assembly. Dirt, yellowing and age defects visible in the photos. The side and top margins appear to have been covered with paper. Very beautiful old glass, probably from the 18th century, given its irregularities. A small loss in the glass at one of the corners (see photo). Period frame with its original gilding, missing edges. A copy of our work is notably deposited at the MUDDAC in Epinal as well as at the MAH in Geneva. Many other objects to discover in my stand at the antique fairs in which I participate.
