This piece of furniture comes from the collection that furnished the Italian embassy in Berlin until the last redecoration about twenty years ago.
On the back there is a small label with the name 'Stipo Chigi', probably referring to the famous and noble Chigi family, which leads us to suspect that the piece of furniture comes from one of their palaces in Rome, possibly from the Villa Farnesina.
The piece was heavily restored in the 19th century, hence its current appearance and patina.
After spending almost another twenty years in the gallery of a famous Berlin antique dealer, it has now come into our possession. It has not undergone any further restoration.
It was probably part of a library or sacristy ensemble.
The wooden plinth imitating marble is new, built by us in the style of the period.
