A Merry Company by Christoffer Jacobszoon Van Der Laemen (1606_1651). CJ vd Laemen was a Flemish Baroque painter, member of the Antwerp guild of St Lucas. A student of his father (Jacob) and Frans Francken (II), he was inspired by the 17th century painters Dirck Hals (1591-1656), Pieter Codde (1599-1678) and Anthonie Palamedes (1602-1673). This painting depicts a beautifully dressed society enjoying life by eating, drinking and laughing. In short, a joyful scene painted by a respected 17th century artist.
