CHATEAU DE BAILLON Property of the Prince of Condé in 1786, the castle was sold in 1801 to Louis Bonaparte, husband of Hortense de Beauharnais (King and Queen of Holland). The latter came to stay and paint in Baillon, and she liked to go to Royaumont via the alley which has since borne her name. Purchased by Napoleon in 1803, the property was offered to Adrien Bon Jannot de Moncey (noted on our drawing), Marshal Duke of Conegliano, for services rendered to the nation.
