Johan Georg Wille (1715-1808): “The Rest of the Virgin” engraver after Christian Willem Ernst Dietrich known as Dietricy (1712-1774), 28.5 x 22.5 cm fulling on sheet 32.5 x 24, 5 cm. Light watermark at the bottom right, dedicated to Monseigneur de Livry, Bishop of Callinique whose Grandes Armes de Comte-Evêque appear at the foot with the date 1776. This beautiful proof according to Dietrich, an admirable pasticheur of the previous Masters of which he made superb imitations for its collectors who wanted to complete a set! Here, this curious secular version of the Virgin's Rest is in the style of 17th century Flemish masters like Gérard Dou.
