Arthur Jacques Le Duc (1848 - 1918)

Born in Normandy , Arthur Le Duc is the only son of Charles Le Duc and Maria Le More .

This skilful animal sculptor trained in the school of Pierre Lenordez and Antoine-Louis Barye exhibited at the Salon , from 1873 to 1914 , a fairly large number of bronzes : "Diane de Poitiers leaving for the hunt" (1877) , " Centaure and Bacchante " (1879) , " The Kiss " (equestrian group, 65 cm) , " Herd of stags listening to the close " (monumental group placed today in the Luxembourg garden , 1886) , " Au Bois " (equestrian study , 1887) , " Norman milkmaid " (1888) ," Ultimus pro patria spiritus " (part of the Calvados war memorial , 1889) , " Le Baron J. Finot " (1912) , " A companion of Duguesclin " (equestrian statue , 1914) .
We must also mention a few figures and studies in plaster , such as a " Standard-bearer on horseback " (project for a monument to the cuirassiers of Reichshoffen , 1873) , " La Raison du plus fort " (group of horses, 1874) , two groups representing hunting scenes (1875) , " Horace Vernet on the battlefield of Isly " (equestrian statue , 1913) .

Leduc also participated , from 1890 to 1907 , in the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts with animals and equestrian portraits , some in plaster , others , quite numerous , in porcelain stoneware , as well as an equestrian statue of the Constable of Richmond (bronze intended for the City of Vannes).

He is buried in the Caen cemetery of Saint - Gabriel in a funerary monument of which he is probably the author.
A museum is dedicated to him at the Château de Matignon in Torigni-sur-Vire , his birthplace .
