He settled in Nancy in 1876 and bought a glassworks in 1878. In 1878, he involved his son Auguste. Upon his death in 1885, Auguste took sole charge of the glassworks before being joined in 1887 by his brother Antonin. The production of glassware will shift towards artistic creation. Between 1889 and 1891, the two brothers prepared the creation of an artistic department which was entrusted to Antonin. Auguste gives him all the means to work to follow the trail created by Émile Gallé in Art Nouveau glassware. The Universal Exhibition of 1900 brought international recognition with the awarding of a Grand Prize. In 1901, Daum founded the Nancy School with the artists Majorelle and E.Gallé, the spearhead of Art Nouveau.
