Joseph François (1729-1813), trained in the business world, preferred law and letters: member from the Academy of Nancy (1765), mayor of the city, professor of history at the Ecole Centrale de la Meurthe (1796), principal at the Lycée de Lyon (1803-1805), he ended his career in Nancy. This collection includes Chaptal's response to the creation of the École centrale de la Meurthe. The author comes from a family of traders and shows a lot of interest in economics. His text on Colbert was published in Paris, the eulogy of Charles III was published in Frankfurt and contains his frontispiece.
