Awarded a scholarship, he undertook a trip to Europe, after which he taught at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. Driven by a concern for practical and visual unity, Saarinen imagines a series of furniture in which “each important element has an overall structure”. He thus intends to "free the space from the clutter of the legs of classic tables and chairs which make them confusing and not very functional". The “Pedestal” and “Executive” series published by Knoll in 1956 and 1957 earned him, as such, international fame. Author of architectural projects marked by the influence of the international style, he is also distinguished by the creation of the General Motors Technical Center in Detroit (1948-1956) and the TWA Terminal at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York (1956). -1962). Suffering from a brain tumor, Eero Saarinen died in 1961 as a result of his illness.
