"“alpine Landscape” Jean-marie Reignier"
Jean-Marie REIGNIER was born in Lyon in 1815. He died there in 1886. He was a student of Augustin Thierrat at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. He exhibited at the Lyon Salon from 1839 and at the Paris Salon from 1842, obtaining a medal in 1848. Painters of flowers, he also painted mountainous landscapes. In the foreground of this painting, a path winds up to alpine chalets. Two figures seated on a rock contemplate the valley. In the background, a beautiful light illuminates a snow-covered needle which stands majestically. Jean-Marie Reignier appears in “Bénézit”. With its wooden and gilded stucco frame decorated with acanthus leaves and laurel leaves, the dimensions of the painting are 40 cm x 53.5 cm.
