"Raymond Besse (1899 - 1969) Beautiful Oil On Canvas Painting "the Zone" Under The Snow In Winter Paris Le Sacré Coeur"
View of the Sacré-Coeur at the top of the Butte Montmartre from "La Zone" under the snow that our artist, a lover of Paris and particularly of the old neighborhoods full of nostalgia, has repeatedly depicted, here with two walkers. With a little attention, you can even see the Arc de Triomphe in the background on the right. As usual, the rich palette of the painter, a talented colorist, is concentrated on cold tones, mixing blue-gray with infinite variations with a multitude of other colors, grays, pink, hints of ocher up to burgundy red with the use of large flat areas. In its original copper patinated wooden frame which highlights it perfectly. Signed R. Besse lower right, located and countersigned on the back. Around 1950. The artist is referenced in Bénézit. Dimensions: 35 cm x 27 cm without frame 42.5 x 50.5 cm with frame Very good condition; in its original state, on its canvas, well stretched. Some marks of age in the patina on the frame. Raymond Besse was born in Niort in 1899 and he arrived in Paris in 1916 to make a living from his art. He quickly became known and participated for the first time in the Salon des Indépendants in 1923. He then participated in many other salons, including the Salon d'Automne. His favorite areas of inspiration will be Montmartre, the northern suburbs of Paris "La Zone", Saint-Ouen, Clichy where he faithfully transcribes life in the so-called working-class neighborhoods during the first half of the century. Many other objects to discover in my stand at the antique fairs in which I participate. Follow my gallery to be informed of new developments and to know the dates of the next Shows...Any questions?
