Anklet consisting of an open rigid rod with a projecting central edge decorated on both sides with incised rectangular cartouches punctuated with obliques and cupules.  
Baule culture, Ivory Coast, 19th century 
Copper alloy 
Length: 10 cm; Height: 17.5 cm 
 
Depending on the extent of their decoration, these ornaments were used to show the prestige of their owners, to protect them from evil spirits or as currency.
