Jean Denis Maillart is a French painter, born in 1913, died in 2004. His first paintings and fashion drawings are signed Jean Maillart. In 1939, he took Jean-Denis Maillart as his artist name. He is the son of Roger Maillart, painter, and the grandson of Diogene Maillart. He was a student of Devambez and Othon Friez. He exhibited regularly in Paris at the Salon des Indépendants and the Tuileries. His first personal exhibition took place in 1942 at the Jean Pascaud gallery in Paris, he also exhibited in 1946 at the Charpentier gallery in Paris, at the Durand-Ruel gallery in 1948 and at the André Weil gallery in 1960. He obtained the Vermeil medal from the city of Paris in 1982. He produced numerous portraits of society, illustrated Rimbaud's "Le Bateau ivre", and decorated the chapel of Blonville in Calvados. From 1947, until the mid-1960s, he executed numerous decorations for theater productions, by Pierre Fresnay, Jacques Charon, Jean Le Poulain, Edwige Feuillère etc...
