Mathurin Moreau (1822 Dijon - 1912 Paris): French sculptor from a family of sculptors located in Dijon. His father Jean-Baptiste-Louis-Joseph Moreau is a sculptor, as are his brothers Hippolyte and Auguste. He was admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1841 and studied with sculptors such as Jules Ramey and Auguste Dumont. In 1842, he won second place in the prestigious Prix de Rome competition. He made his debut at the Salon of French Artists in 1848. He is the author of numerous cabinet sculptures as well as monuments and monumental fountains which today adorn many French and foreign cities, such as Paris, Geneva, Quebec or Buenos Areas.
