History: Pierre D'Avesn, whose real name is Pierre Gire, studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and, at the age of fourteen, he entered the company of René Lalique, where he learned glass arts with this great master. He worked with Lalique for twelve years and designed some of the firm's most famous pieces for him, such as the "Serpent" and "Tourbillons" vases. In 1927, he began working for Daum, where he designed and supervised production at the Lunéville factory, which specialized in Art Deco glass for export, mainly to the United States. However, the factory closed in 1932 due to the Depression, and between 1937 and 1940 D'Avesn worked for Verlys. It is possible that after the Second World War he continued to work for the art glass industry, probably in Choisy-Le-Roi/Sèvres.
