Elise Voruz was born in Lausanne in 1844 and died in Barbizon in 1909. Élise Voruz (Lausanne 1844-1909) excellent artist of the Swiss school, to whom Bénézit devotes an article: native of Lausanne, painter and engraver, pencil sketcher, she also practiced oil painting and watercolor. She was a student of the French painter Evariste-Vital Luminais (1821-1896) and of Mme Midy. Elise Voruz settles in Paris, rue Fontaine, and works in Montmartre. She is part of the movement of painters who choose Barbizon as a place of inspiration in the heart of nature. She participates in numerous fairs, notably every year at the Salon des Femmes Artistes. It should be noted that the Museum of Fine Arts in Nantes keeps 17 of his drawings. She appears, between 1907 and 1910, in the famous 'golden book of living painters in France' edited by Eugène Hoffmann.
