"Ruins Of The Feudal Castle Of Boves, Somme, Drawing By Auguste Joron, 19th Century"
JORON, Auguste. Original drawing. “Ruins of Boves Castle, 2nd view”. Brown ink and gray wash. 45.5 x 65 cm. Signed lower right: “DP Auguste Joron”. Freckles. A wormhole. Boves Castle (in the Somme, south-east of Amiens) is an old feudal castle built in the 10th century of which only the remains of a tower remain today (dating from a 14th century reconstruction) . Victor Hugo, having seen these ruins, described them as a “great cracked dungeon”. A portrait of Charles X signed “DP Auguste Joron” and dated 1825 is kept at the Carnavalet museum.
