Jules Dupré is a French painter born in 1811 and died in 1889.
He began as a porcelain painter in his father's workshop. From 1830, he became friends with the painters of Barbizon: Troyon, Daubigny, T. Rousseau, Millet, Gabat, Paul Huet. He debuted at the Salon the same year as Troyon, in 1831, with landscapes. Dupré willingly left to work in the countryside, in search of some study from nature with his friends, J. André, Troyon or Cabat, in Indre or Berry. In 1834, he left for England where he made contact with the English masters, Constable, Turner, Bonington... On his return he achieved success at the Salon of 1835 with his view of Southampton. Dupré is the painter of the sky. Far from wanting to paint immediacy, it is on the contrary an idea of universality, of permanence that he expresses. He does not see the painter other than in her exceptional and above all dramatic aspect, the opposite of Corot. We have noticed the almost complete absence of man in his works.
