Yezd Persian rug, hand-knotted in kork wool, circa 1970-1980 also called Yazd from Iran and measuring 198 cm wide by 298 cm long. Yezd is located midway between Kirman and Isfahan and was once known and famous for its gold thread fabrics. ## Yezd rugs are quite rare on the European market and very little known. In fact, the knotting of small and large carpets in this city started late and out of necessity. Yezd used to be a city of famous fabric manufacturers. With the textile market at its lowest, residents organized themselves to resume the tradition of carpet knotting. They took up the spirit of Kirman carpets by calling on knotters and cardboard designers (the “ostads”) from the region of Kirman, a town located 360 km from Yezd. The decorations only include very inventive floral motifs in shades that are always very luminous. The wool used and the high quality knotting also evoke this city and its ancient tradition. Our model with a red base color accompanied by numerous blues is decorated with an important medallion like a large flower in the shape of a cross bursting into numerous stylized flowers, pistachio, lotus and palm leaves for the most beautiful effect. The scholarly border, flowered on an ivory background, lined with four braids, has a magnificent effect. No spandrels for this model, the clever, complex decoration fills the field. The velvet is soft and in very good condition for approximately 360,000 knots per M2. Short fringes and edges in very good condition. A magnificent quality rug considered "of great passage" Carpet in very good condition.
