"Pendant Sculptures After Jean-baptiste Pigalle"
Pair of statues forming a pendant after the French sculptor Jean-Baptiste Pigalle (1714-1785). One is titled
The Child with a birdcage, the other
Child holding a Bird.
The Child with a birdcage is the portrait of the son of Paris de Montmartel: the child holds in his hand an open cage, from which the bird has flown. The original was presented at the salon in 1750. This became the counterpart of the antique sculpture
The Child with a birdcage which was already in the collection of De Montmartel. These sculptures have a nuanced brown green red patina and date from the first half of the 19
th century.
