Joan Brotat is a painter born in Barcelona. He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Barcelona and his work was first exhibited during an experimental art cycle organized in 1950. His painting is a blend of ancient Romanesque painters and the contemporary style of the time. The first stage is marked by conventionalism and modernist touches, recreating Catalan Romanesque painting. Its second stage is based on formalism, collage and gestural art
