"William Lee South Brittany"
Landscape of southern Brittany by William Lee (1860-1915). A student of Jean-Paul Laurens, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1889 to 1902 but very quickly turned to ceramics working with Jean Carriès and Georges Hoentschel in Puisaye. The landscape must date from the late 1880s when he painted in Monks' Island. It is framed in a late 19th century oak frame and signed lower left. The painting has some visible gaps in the photograph and has been deliberately cropped by the painter. Without frame it measures 29x36 cm.
