Alfred Engel-Feitknecht was one of the first in Switzerland to begin the commercial production of photographic equipment and cameras in the 1870s. The cameras were said to be considered the best products on the world market.
The Engel company also specialized in the distribution of supplies for the photographic industry and thus acquired a leading position in Switzerland. In 1891, he filed the first patent for an interchangeable system for glass plate cameras.
A subsequent patent followed in 1899. After the death of Alfred Engel (1899), his successors moved the company headquarters to Biel in 1902.
The company was then founded by former employees under the name Roth & Cie., then Perrot & Cie from 1915.
The camera is constructed of mahogany wood with brass inserts.
