"Charles Rudhardt, Pair Of Vases, Longwy, Japan"
Pair of ceramic vases with rich hand painted decor of Japanese women. Each vase has a different decor on each side, eight for the two vases.
This production illustrates perfectly the interest for Japonism in France in the second half of the 19th century.
These hand painted decors are signed with the monogram C.R. for Charles Rudhardt.
This great ceramist, coupled with a talented artist, exhibited at the Universal Exhibition of 1867 with Genlis, with whom he collaborated in his studio.
In the spirit of the pieces we present, we will note with interest a vase, in the collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts, painted by Charles Rudhardt around 1878 on a ceramic by Dominique Gicqueau. This piece was donated by Mr A. Gicqueau in 1934.
Charles Rudhardt, an independent artist, also collaborated with Longwy Pottery in the 1880s with great success.
