Pair of cabriolet armchairs, medallion backs
White relacquered beech
Stamped on the front crosspiece of one.
Inventory numbers on the back
Paris circa 1780
Dimensions : H. ; D. ; W. (cm.)
Elegant pair of armchairs on turned tapered legs with fluting, curved seat, medallion back, moulded belt, back, armrests and arm supports. Connecting dice decorated with pastilles.
This pair of armchairs is typical of Parisian production at the end of the Ancien Régime. The material (beech), the style (abundant fluting and moulding) and the finish (off-white lacquer) are all typical.
The beautiful proportions of this pair make them ideal for sitting on either side of a chest of drawers, a secretary or an 18th-century console table.

An example of flying furniture
Our medallion armchairs are a perfect illustration of the distinction between furnishing and flying furniture. Furnishing furniture, with its flat back, is designed to stay in place. Our seats, with their cabriolet backs, are part of the flying furniture category, which can be moved to suit your mood for playing, having tea or sitting in the lounge. Our armchairs are a synthesis of an iconic model whose shape is still being reworked by Philippe Starck and his famous Louis Ghost armchair in the 21st century.
Condition report: superb work by our upholsterer. Joinery with no gaps, seats and backs refurbished using the traditional method (horsehair on webbing) and covered in a very thick cotton velvet with superb reflections. Matching new trimmings.
