"Bronze “spaniel Dog”, Signed Pj.mêne – Mid 19th Century"
Bronze proof with brown patina signed by the French sculptor Pierre Jules Mêne (1810-1979). Mêne, a pioneer in animal sculpture, is known for the quality and perfection of his works. This bronze depicts a spaniel dog in a guard position, staring fixedly at the partridge which this canine mistakes for a pile of grass. When hunting, the spaniel is a pointing dog whose job is to flush out game. The whole rests on an oval gray marble base. The artist brilliantly captures the slightest expression of this dog. As always with Pierre-Jules Mêne, this work will appeal to nature lovers. ******** Period: Mid-19th Century Excellent condition.
