Giorgio Sommer (1834-1914) is an Italian photographer of German origin. A great traveler, he took numerous photographs for albums, catalogs and postcards. He worked in Rome then opened studios in Naples. He photographs Pompeii but also the streets and architecture of Naples as well as scenes of daily life (often reproduced in the studio). Associated with German photographer Edmund Behles, they became the most prolific photographers of this period. Sommer is appointed official photographer to King Vittorio Emanuele II of Italy.
