Almost alive!!.. This young woman seems to have been cast from life, as her features, her attitude, her complexion and her gaze appear realistic.. She seems real, and remains proud and dignified, her chin raised high, despite the 'unfair promise of a dark future... This large 19th century bust in polychrome cast aluminum, comes from a "full-length" sculpture variously treated, entitled "Chained" and previously executed by Emmanuel Villanis (1858 - 1914) . Recognized sculptor of the "belle époque", prolific and lover of the feminine forms, he used bronze, spelter and cast aluminum to immortalize his numerous productions, hymns to women and the emotions they provoke... Very good general condition, with some alterations of the polychromy due to age. Movable brass ear rings; signature on the chest. Other photos available on internet request.
