"Le Croisic, quai de la Poissonnerie"
Watercolor on paper,
Signed lower left,
Beautiful luminous work by Carlos Reymond which represents a view of the port and basin called "Bassin Hervé Rielle" of Le Croisic.
The contrast of colors and the play of lights perfectly convey the maritime atmosphere of the place.
From the age of 16, Carlos Reymond received encouragement and advice from the painter Claude Monet. He began his career with views of Paris in a neo-impressionist style.
He settled in Saint-Tropez in 1903. He met the painters Paul Signac, Louis Valtat, Charles Camoin, Henri Manguin and André Dunoyer de Segonzac who regularly stayed in Saint-Tropez. He learned about divisionism from Signac without wanting to lock himself into this artistic movement.
After the war, Carlos Reymond married in 1919 the eldest daughter of the painter Henri Lebasque, Marthe Lebasque. He traveled to Italy, North Africa, Spain and Brittany, while remaining attached to the south of France.
In 1941, he moved with his wife to Nice in the Cimiez district, next to the house of his friend the painter Henri Matisse.
Carlos Reymond participated in the Salon des Indépendants from 1905 to 1921 and during personal exhibitions in Paris from 1922 to 1960.
Painter strongly linked to impressionism with his vibrant colors, Carlos Reymond benefited from recognition of his art among his peers .
