Sepia photograph of a watercolor fan project ''start of the court hunt'' signed in ink lower right: Charles DETAILLE (1852-1894) ''to his friend Allaire''. Original rectangular frame in gilded wood; Marie-Louise in the shape of a fan.
Late 19th century period.

Charles Detaille, born August 27, 1852 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye and died March 14, 1894 in Boulogne-sur-Mer, is a French painter and illustrator. He exhibited for the first time at the Salon in 1875 with a watercolor entitled A Hunting Rendezvous3. He specializes in horse painting and sports painting, and collaborates as an illustrator for newspapers such as La Vie Sportive. He is the brother of the painter Édouard Detaille, of whom he was a student.
