"A Grenadine Black Silk Shawl - Second Empire"
Circa 1860 France A beautiful black Grenadine silk shawl from a Stéphanoise factory dating from the Second French Empire. This translucent silk appreciated by the Provencal, Spanish and Russians, has the particularity of being rigid and transparent at the same time! Technically, it involves a double twisting of the warp threads before weaving, a 19th century secret kept by the silk makers of Lyon and Saint Etienne. Note a period recovery in the center and rare tiny needle holes (invisible) which do not call into question the solidity of this shawl. Good condition. Dimensions: 155cm x 155cm.
