Table Knives Service - Box Of 12 Carved Handles - 18 / 19th Century Blade - Curiosity

Superb set of table knives dating from the end of the 18th century / beginning of the 19th century, presented in an elegant period wooden box. The reverse of the inside cover bears an original label, mentioning the house "MORETTE jeunesse", successor to "M. Lesueur", established at the end of the 18th century.

This box includes 12 knives with handles made of noble materials, finely carved in the shape of a doe foot. The sleeves are richly decorated with colorful floral and foliage patterns, some decorated with small houses evoking a naturalistic style.

The blades, made of high quality hardened steel, are decorated with a mark representing a lying flower as well as letters or numbers, probably an unidentified signature (see photos).

The ferrules, between the handle and the blade, are silver.

The set is in good used condition and testifies to refined craftsmanship.
Please note that there is a slight slit on the sleeves which does not jeopardize the solidity of the whole.
