Object description :

"Raoul Van Maldere (1875-1947) House On The Edge Of A Lake In A Mountainous Landscape"
The astonishing universe of a singular painter with an atypical career, almost cubist, and yet from the classical Marseille School, Raoul Van Maldère. The artist, as usual, plays with geometric shapes, in warm colors, and the simple lake landscape then becomes curiosity, originality, down to the detail of the word "WINE" which can be read on the facade of the house, certainly an advertising sign. The work, in very good condition, is presented in a beautiful carved Louis XV style frame, with a faded patina, which measures 73.5 cm by 84 cm and 54 cm by 65 cm for the canvas alone. It represents a house on the edge of a lake, in a landscape surrounded by mountains. In excellent condition, the work is signed and dated 1922 at the bottom left middle. A captivating and unusual painting.

First self-taught then student of Joseph Colla, he was encouraged and regularly exhibited by the Marseille gallery owner Jules Olive (1910, 1913, 1921, 1922, 1923, and 1925). In 1925, he tried his luck in Paris and debuted at the Salon des Indépendants with "le Four" and two watercolors representing landscapes of Provence. From 1913, he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne. Finally, he attended the Salon des Artistes Français from 1924 to 1939: "Vieux Mas, Provence et Etang de Berre (1926), Maison en Provence et Mas provençal (1927), Coup de mer, Provence (1936)". He is also the author of highly prized female portraits.
