Marcel Cockx (1930 -2007).
Belgian neo-expressionist painter. Training at the Louvain Academy with J. Cobbaert, where he himself was a professor from 1956 to 1986. Predilection for landscapes, seascapes, interiors, figures, flowers. Travel all over the world thanks to scholarships.
Visits Bulgaria where he is dazzled by the icons (1962-1963).
Evolves from a dark expressionism, (influenced by Permeke, Gus De Smet), towards a clear and robust chromatic expressionism. In the press: "Marcel Cockx can be classified among the chromatic expressionists, his palette is honest and pure".
Work at the Louvain museum.
