The mortar measures not less than 58cm diameter with its 2 powerful zoomorphic handles (48cm without them) and no less than 49cm high,
for a weight of 120kg - very very heavy category !
(my wife also scolded me because I broke our scale !????????)
The model has 8 buttresses, and 2 powerfull zoomorphic handles.
The numerous relief medals depicting fleur-de-lys are arranged in 6 groups of 4, 5 or 6 depending on the registers, between the buttresses. Also other fleur-de-lys (12) in upper frieze on the wide corbelled rim/collar.
The interior rim has an engraved apocryphal date, ´176 II'). The horizontal bar of 7 clearly shows that this inscription dates from the 19th century and is not from the 17th or 18th centuries elsewhere, excluding the possibility that it could be original.
The mortar is in perfect condition, but it should be noted that there is a cast iron crack on the lower part (visible in the photos) and only on one of the two main faces. The slot, wider on the outside, is very thin inside and in no way weakens the powerful, very thick assembly. This is undoubtedly a foundry default, which appeared during manufacturing cooling, and is obviously linked to its very significant thickness.
Rare piece of pharmacy collection, with proportions and weight that are largely special and incredible.
