Long late 16th or early XVIIth cty oak carved panel from Norman chest front,
(A groove in one of the corners at the back of the panel certainly delimited the bread compartment inside the trunk).
Dimensions 127cm length* 35cm high and approx. 3cm thickness
Very good condition and beautiful grey patina.
The central panel is also framed by an ornamental foliage frieze characteristic of this type of chest.
The very popular and delightfully naive profile motif depicts a spear hunting scene, with walking hunters carrying spears and hunting horns, and several hunting dogs chasing a deer.
We will particularly notice the funny stylization of the trees whose foliage treated with layers recalls umbrella pines, but also architectural towers to suggest a castle in the background.
