original drawing ink and watercolor on strong vellum signature lower left countersigned and dated on the back P Violet May 5, 1809 painter in miniatures student of the royal academy of painting exhibited at the salon of 1785 author in 1788 of the Elementary Treatise on the Art of painting in miniature he emigrated in 1789 and remained in England until his death in 1819 this drawing was therefore made in England 10 years before the painter's death then brought back to France probably by a family of emigrants for restoration French framing of Empire or Louis XVIII period pretty subject representing two young women in conversation in a purely neo-classical style interesting bias and work on a profile the other character turning his head the painter therefore highlights the hands of the young girl almost in movement in good condition no foxing frame with its original gilding old 19th century window repeated on the back of the reinforcing paper closing the frame interesting drawing by a referenced artist and probably in its original frame approximately 28x22cm with frame 34.5x29.5cm all questions welcome careful sending
