"Pair Of Louis XV Style Gilt Bronze Candlesticks"
Pair of Louis XV style candlesticks in gilded bronze decorated with putti with a brown patina. The barrel is made of a scroll of acanthus leaf entwining a delicate putto. The putti are not in a strictly identical attitude but each raises an arm to the sky, the left one for first putto, the right one for the other. The aesthetic quality of the work lies in the fact that it is a real pair facing each other and not two identical items. Each candlestick has four arms of light moving in an elegant twist more or less decorated with acanthus leaves. The binets generously decorated with foliage and flowers rest on elegant cups themselves composed of leaves. Bobèches are simpler. Note that the two summits have been changed and therefore have a very slightly different pattern. Small, barely noticeable feature (see the last photos). The feet consisting of an interlacing of foliage and flowers are in the pure rocaille style very fashionable during the Louis XV period and even more so in the second half of the 19th century, the time of creation of our objects. These candlesticks have a good size, measuring 45cm in height and 22cm in width. More intended for decoration than lighting, they will appreciate a place close to a source of light which will highlight their gilding.
