Alphonse Rey was born on January 23, 1865 in Avignon and died on October 12, 1938 in Nice. Painter of seaside landscapes, orientalist scenes, murals. It is his watercolors that made him famous. He studied with Félix Ziem, Gagliardini and Sembach. He goes to Algeria every year. He exhibits his works at the Salon des Artistes Français. He shows his paintings in private exhibitions in Algiers, Oran, Bordeaux, Lyon, Nancy, Marseille. Apart from some decoration for private interiors, the creation of an Algerian stamp and was essentially a watercolorist, he draws his inspiration from the landscapes of Provence, Camargue, and Algeria. He was appointed curator of the Ziem Museum, his master, in Martigues. In 2003 it was presented during the collective exhibition "Luminous Algérie" at the National Maritime Museum in Toulon.
