Object description :

"Attributed To Baccarat. 19th Century Candlestick, In Multi-layer Cut Crystal (overlay)."
Attributed to BACCARAT (or SAINT-LOUIS). Very beautiful and extremely rare Candlestick, from the Empire - Restoration period, circa 1850. Proof made in blown and tool-worked multilayer crystal, translucent lined in Cobalt-Blue (using the overlay technique), with large chiseled decoration and protruding cut sides, highlighted with blue threads, evocative of the “Harcourt (1841)” model. The curved barrel has a stretched air bubble inside, visible through transparency. The base is multi-lobed, attached and hot-fixed, with a cut decoration of petals adorned with a very beautiful gradient blue. The receptacle, at the top of the candle holder, also features a complex and harmonious decoration combining blue and translucent crystal; its hollow shape allows it to accommodate a candle. This is a very beautiful and old production, which we place, as indicated above, in the first half of the 19th century, around 1830 - 1850 (Charles X - Empire - Restoration period). The candlestick, given its period, naturally does not have a signature. However, it is very close – in several respects – to the production of Baccarat (or Saint-Louis). In addition to the quality of the crystal and the overlay work, the carving, the shape and the decoration make us think, as stated, of the “Harcourt” model. In fact, we find, in addition to the cut sides, typical of this model, an octagonal line in various places; line which is also characteristic of said model. Perhaps these are the first tests of the “Harcourt” model (officially created, we recall, in 1841)? In any case, this candlestick dates from the first half of the 19th century, and the glasswork is remarkable, eminently qualitative and complex. CONDITION REPORT: the candle holder is in excellent condition. The crystal is perfectly brilliant; the bright and unaltered color; we also make no mention of any accident or any particular wear (no shine - no shock - no loss). However, it will be possible to detect small traces of use – the object is almost 200 years old! –, but nothing that does not constitute wear and tear. Here they are detailed, below: - insignificant and invisible scratches on the back of the base, without any impact. This, however, is practically not noticed, and in no way harms the interest of the candlestick; - tiny little defect on the collar (this is truly symbolic wear, almost invisible), again without impact - see additional photo, n°7; + tiny little jump of material at the base, invisible (too small to be detectable in the photos which represent the base, photos n°3 and 5). - it is possible to detect some small marks of use, which, however, in no way constitute wear. The object is certainly not new, but it really remains in perfect state of conservation. The candlestick is, truly, in perfect condition! DIMENSIONS: - height, 24.00 CM; - diameter at the base, 09.90 CM; - diameter at the top, 08.20 CM.
