The painting we are presenting is a scene from everyday life much appreciated by the painter Mommers, in chiaroscuro in a lively landscape of characters treated in delicate touches echoing Italian painting. A gilded wooden frame carved with flowers dating from the 19th century. Hendrick Mommers, genre painter and landscape painter, born in Haarlem around 1623 and buried in Amsterdam on December 21, 1693. Member of the guild of his native city, he visited Italy, worked in Rome and left us mainly Italianate landscapes, pastoral scenes, market scenes, in the style of Berchem and Cuyp. Seduced by the French capital, he created several "Views of Paris", his Parisian landscapes are mentioned in the inventories of 1653 and 1687.
