Kobako – Rare and pretty model in the shape of a Japanese boat or barque, in Japanese urushi gold lacquer. It is a junk, a traditional Japanese boat. This model opens through the roof forming a lid and through the upper part of the boat in slight relief, opening onto the aventurine bottom. The boat is decorated using the traditional Mokume technique (aventurine with veined/wavy gold, imitating wood) while the roof imitates straw. Nashiji lacquer interior. Dimensions: 4.2 x 22 cm (including paddle). Former French collection. Japan Edo (1603-1868) 18th century.
