"Louis XVI Style Mahogany Bookcase, Mid-19th Century "
Louis XVI style mahogany bookcase, trimmed with brass and topped with Carrara marble, glazed on three sides. It opens on the front with two glass doors (period glass). In the lower part, each door is dark with a solid mahogany panel decorated with two Wedgwood plaques framed in gilded bronze. The panels and windows are highlighted by brass strips forming ogee moldings. Between the doors, we find a slightly rounded brass joint cover. Closing of the two doors is done by a brass lock on the right door, accompanied by a brass entry with its key in working order. After opening, we discover the interior, composed of four shelves, with half-round brass-covered edge. The sides of this bookcase have an attached half-column having four grooves decorated with brass. The whole rests on four “spinning top” feet decorated with a brass collar and ending in a shoe foot. The sides of this piece of furniture are made of original glass surrounded by brass ogee strips. The top of this bookcase is made of slightly veined white Carrara marble, surrounded by an openwork brass gallery with overflows. This Louis XVI bookcase is unique due to the quality of its wood and its workmanship, making it a rare piece of furniture, which seduces with its elegance and clean lines. ******** Period: 2nd half of the 19th century. Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop.
