"Wood Collector In The Winter Forest By Heinrich Gogarten (german, 1850 - 1911)"
This painting with a wood gatherer in the winter forest was executed in 1887 by Emil Heinrich (Henri) Gogarten (1850 in Linz on the Rhine - 1911 Munich). He was a German landscape painter and representative of symbolism. Gogarten studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf under Oswald Achenbach and with his support from 1874 to 1877 in Paris. He then returned to Germany and lived from 1878 to 1889 in Hamburg. By the summer of that year, Gogarten had moved to Munich and would soon join the Dachau artists' colony. In addition to exhibitions at the Academy of Fine Arts, Gogarten was presented at the Munich Glass Palace (Glaspalast).
