Dimensions: with frame: 21.5 x 32.5 cm at sight: 17.8 x 28.2 cm Belgian painter, trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels where he was a student of Paul Lauters and by Joseph Stallaert. One of the founding members of the “l’Essor” circle and the “Pour l’Art” group. With Léon Dardenne, in 1892 he opened a cabaret in Brussels called Le Diable au corps, where they staged shadow puppet shows and singers. In 1893, the duo launched an illustrated periodical in the name of the cabaret. There we meet James Ensor, Paul-Henri Spaak, Pitje Schramouille, George Garnir, Charles Plisnier, as well as many students from the free university.
