Narcisse Diaz de la Pena (1807-1876) was a 19th century French artist
IN 1822 he entered the Arsène Gillet porcelain factory as an apprentice painter where he became friends with Jules Dupré and Louis Nicolas Cabat and Raffet.
From 1831, he exhibited at the Salon where he received several prizes over the years.
IN 1837 he became one of the artists of the Barbizon school but worked with so many thick paints that he subsequently influenced the impressionists. Admiring Delacroix, Rousseau and Millet, his works are imbued with ocher tones with luminous effects, with impressionnism, chiaroscuro and often influenced by the Orient with which he is fascinated. In the manner of the later Impressionists, Diaz sprinkles his painting with pure red tones, thus contrasting with his ocher, green and bluish tones.
