Faust, a scholar in love with knowledge, meets the innocent Marguerite (Gretchen) through the devil Mephistopheles, with whom he has made a pact, and succumbs to his charms according to Goethe's version. Signed in pencil, dry stamp of the publisher, numbered and annotated in the plate "Copyright 1928 by L. Icart - Paris / Edited by Graveurs Moderne, 194 rue de Rivoli, Paris". Gilded wood frame.
